Once again, WordPress is cutting words off my post titles. This should read: I’m a “Fitness Expert” on Diets In Review. If anyone knows how to fix this, I’d love some help!!
One of the wonderful things about blogging is the opportunities it leads to. On Tuesday I shared the presentation from the panel that I spoke on with Cassie and Gretchen at Healthy Living Summit regarding how to use your blog to elevate your career. With the exception of teaching Bodypump and Spinning classes and the few bucks I make from Jamberry, every single dollar I’ve earned since I moved to Colorado can be credited directly to this little blog or connections that I’ve made through blogging. My publishing network provides me with advertisements and product review opportunities. I’m proud to be an ambassador for a few different organizations and companies (Fitfluential, Silk, Bhakti Chai, FlapJacked) and am on payroll with a company that I truly love. I’m not saying any of this to brag – I’m just trying to provide examples (and hope!) for anyone that wants to use their blog to lead to a job (rather than aspire to have the blog itself be a full-time job). Trust me- I did my time staying at a job that ate my soul for far too long.
One of the latest opportunities that I’ve taken on is the role of Diets In Review’s Fitness Expert.
Am I a fitness expert? Who knows. I’m a certified Personal Trainer, Bodypump and Spinning instructor with almost 5 years of experience teaching and coaching – so I’ve got some credentials there. What I am is someone who is truly passionate about exercise and (of course) I love to talk about it any chance I get.
I met the DIR’s Director of Publishing at the Fitbloggin’ conference in 2012 and hit it off with her right away. We stayed in touch and connected again at Fitbloggin’ 2013. She was looking for a fitness writer for DIR and offered me the job- which I happily accepted! I write a weekly article on the site on various fitness trends/topics/ideas. Some of my articles are pretty mellow and standard while others are a little crazy!
If you’ve never check out DIR, head on over there and take a look. There’s thousands of awesome articles related to fitness, nutrition, weight loss and lifestyle. If you’re a fan of The Biggest Loser you’ll be happy- the show is written about often on the site.
I wanted to share my first three articles with you (which are all short and sweet). My first article was silly and off-the-wall and a lot of fun to “research” and write:
Brandi told me that she always assigns a crazy topic like this for a writer’s first assignment. It happened to be right up my alley because (I’m not ashamed to admit) I love boy bands.
My second article was definitely just as silly (and I kept it very short):
Are you sick of hearing about twerking yet? Did you know that there are actual gyms that offer it is an exercise class? Yeah, neither did I.
My latest article is probably my favorite so far. It’s about a topic that I relate to all too well, based on Special K’s recent marketing campaign:
I’m not one to purchase Special K’s products, but I do love the message of this commercial.
I’ve got all kinds of crazy, fun ideas lined up for future articles (some of which I’ll also share on here!). If you have any ideas for fitness related topics you’d like to see me write about, please share!
Have a great day!
What do you think some of the current (hot!) fitness trends are?
