PlantFusion [Plant-Based Protein Powder] Giveaway!

I began purchasing protein powders about four years ago, after discovering the wonderful world of fruit + protein smoothies. I experimented with all different kinds: whey, soy, rice, egg white, etc. to find which one I preferred. After trying out all kinds of options, a friend turned me on to PlantFusion- a plant based protein. Unlike many other protein powders, PlantFusion is free of soy, dairy, egg, gluten, nuts and pretty much any other common allergen. You can follow them on Twitter here, and “Like” on Facebook here!

(From PlantFusion’s website. Click to make larger.)

It has 21-22g of protein per serving, very little fat, and is low in carbohydrates. The best part? It actually tastes great! Many plant-based protein powders taste chalky to me, and that is definitely not appealing. PlantFusion has a smooth, tasty flavor and doesn’t completely dominate when combined with fruit to make a smoothie. It currently comes in four different flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Berry and Unflavored. PlantFusion was kind enough to send me a 1 lb. tub of the vanilla protein to help support my vegan experiment.

PlantFusion also sent me samples of the other three flavors AND a chocolate raspberry flavor (which is to die for!). They’re also coming out with a cookies & cream flavor in the near future!

I needed to find a delicious vanilla flavored protein powder for Greg to replace of the whey protein powder that he had been using on (almost) a daily basis. I knew that Greg would be super picky and speak his mind if he didn’t like the taste of PlantFusion. But, luckily, he loved it!

This is one of Greg’s favorite smoothie combinations:

1 scoop PlantFusion Vanilla

1 frozen banana

handful of frozen blueberries

handful of peanuts

2 T flax seeds

ice + water

One minute later…

I think I need to clean off my Vitamix…

Because PlantFusion is a product and company that I’m a big fan of, I’m happy to share the goods with you! Or, specifically one of you. PlantFusion will send one lucky reader a 1 lb. tub of protein powder in the flavor of his/her choice!

  1. My favorite smoothie vanilla protein powder blended with 1 apple, almond milk, ice, cinnamon, chia seeds and maca. So good!

  2. I just found your site through Amanda at Pickles ‘n Honey…I’m loving your posts, especially since you’re doing a vegan experiment! Your career change is very inspiring! I also like getting a “local’s” perspective – I live in Towson and work in Columbia so not toooo far from you :-)

I don’t currently use a traditional protein powder in my smoothies…I use hemp powder. Banana & PB is my all-time fave combination (with some spinach for an extra serving of greens), but this chocolate-cherry one is pretty great too:

    Thanks for the giveaway, Lauren!

  3. i need to clean my vitamix too! that smoothie looks good. Love the peanut addition! my favorite? I like mango carrot vanilla smoothies. mango, carrot juice, almond milk, vanilla protein, and a dash of vanilla extract.

  4. My favorite smoothie is almond milk, banana and frozen cherries. Sometimes I add some protein powder too.

  5. I love blending pumpkin puree, some medjool dates, cinnamon, almond milk, protein powder and ice for a smoothie pumpkin pie!

  6. Daniela Jae says:

That looks tasty! My go to is smoothie uses one banana, half a cup of frozen berries (any kind), 1 tbl of ground up chia seeds, and a handful of spinach, a bit of OJ or any kind of fuit juce, Ice+Water. I would love to try to experiment with protein powder!

  7. I’ve been wanting to try PlantFusion!! My favorite smoothie is pretty simple: protein powder, banana and peanut butter (plus either soy/almond milk, water, and ice).

    • I used plant fusion with bananas and organic peanut butter..some ice cubes. The taste was delicious but too thicker smoothies. Any ideas anyone.. i am a candida Albican so need to watch sugar intake Shirley.

  8. Oh! And I tweeted! ;)

  9. I use Greek yogurt for my base, and pretty much always just add sweetener, banana and some version of frozen berries. BUT, my smoothie secret weapon is about 1/4 tsp of citric acid–it makes the flavors pop out, and I love the tartness!

  10. I’m intrigued by the plant-based proteins, as I’ve started to have not so awesome reactions to whey and casein protein powders. My fave smoothie right now – frozen mango and frozen raspberries, spinach with almond milk with your protein powder of choice. I dig on super thick smoothies/shakes so I end up putting in a ton of ice!

  11. Kale, banana, vanilla protein powder and almond milk!!! Drooling now… :)

  12. And I went and Tweeted it! :-) @janemonfre

  13. I love strawberry, mango, and orange juices if I’m making an all fruit smoothie, but if I use protein powder I keep it simple with just one frozen berry and a little bit of ice and water to keep it from getting to thick.

  14. Yummers! I like to mix my protein powders with flax milk, guar and xantham gums (thick and creaminess guaranteed!) and random extracts or sugar free syrups depending on my mood and the powder flavor. Oh lots of ice too for volume to fill me up (:

  15. Tweeted it to (:

  16. Pumpkin smoothies are my fav :) pumpkin, vanilla protein powder, vanilla almond milk, cinnamon and pumpkin spices, xantham gum for thickness and frozen bananas… Topped with pb and cereal for crunchiness :-)

  17. I’ve heard good things about PlantFusion, but have yet to try it. Favorite smoothie combination? My go-to is usually unsweetened almond milk, a scoop of vanilla protein powder, frozen banana, hemp seeds, vanilla stevia, and a little almond extract. I am obsessed with almond extract – it makes everything taste so decadent!

  18. I am terrible at making smoothies. The last one I made had vanilla whey powder, some strawberry Greek yogurt, and mixed berries (blueberry, strawberry, and blackberry) and some Chia seeds and it was dreadful. My friend makes fancy ones that involve things like sugar-free butterscotch pudding or peanut butter, I need to get her recipes. I think soy-based powders have a terrible “feel,” I’d like to try another non-dairy protein source.

  19. I just finished my morning smoothie. Today was a scoop of vanilla protein powder, a 1/4 cup of oatmeal, a Tbsp of flax seeds, a heaping spoon of almond butter, a frozen banana, 3 ice cubes and enough almond milk to mix in the vitamixer. Yum!

  20. I make this smoothie every morning:

1/4 cup oats (processed a bit first)
    Almond milk
    Large handful spinach or kale
1-2 TBL flax seeds and/or chia seeds
    1 scoop almond butter
1-2 TBL greek yogurt (optional, its vegan w/o this)
    1/2 -1 banana
1 scoop protein powder (plant based preferred!)
2 handfuls froz strawberries & blueberries – OR costco’s triple berry mix, LOVE that stuff
and sometimes 1 scoop cocoa powder

…its sort of ridiculous, but boy does it keep me full!

  21. I have been doing vanilla protein powder, a handful of spinach and cinnamon…Kind of like a snickerdoodle!

  22. My favorite is pretty boring! Trader Joe’s Organic frozen fruit, coconut milk & vanilla protein powder! I would love to try a plant based protein powder, as I am still trying to figure out my favorite kind/types!

  23. Whoops totally meant coconut WATER! AH! :)

  24. I love smoothies! I always use stevia & berries. SO yumm!

  25. My favorite smoothie is a variation of a green monster. Half a scoop of protein powder, 1tbsp almond butter, tons of spinach, some frozen banana and nescafe!!! It tastes like a pb coffee shake.

  26. I think any smoothie with some good protein powder, unsweetened almond milk and fruit make it delicious!

  27. I change my smoothie recipes based on the season but my two favorites:
Kale, spinach, 1/2 banana, pineapple, cinnamon, and protein powder (so refreshing!)
Spinach, blueberry, tart cherry, cinnamon, protein powder, and almond butter

  28. Mine’s not very inventive but I love it every time I make it – frozen banana, almond or soymilk, a scoop of peanut butter, and berries (strawberries, blueberries, or both!)

  29. nina morris says:

i love love love kale, bananna, pumpkin, splash of coffee, nutmeg, and almond milk!! thaat protein poweder sounds like the answer to the whey protein dilema…

  30. Scoop of chocolate protein powder, your choice of milk, 1/4-1/3 cup of pumpkin, ice and lots of cinnamon. I just drank one, yum.

  31. I got my favorite smoothie recipe from Montel Williams. :) Its coconut water, spinach, watermelon, pineapple, and banana. Yummm! And the kids love it too!

  32. Love 1 scoop protein powder, 1 c mixed fruit and almond milk

  33. As I have told you, Plant Fusion is my FAVORITE. I’m obsessed. I have a tub of each of the four flavors, and I hope to be able to try the Cookies + Cream when it is ready for sampling. :) Since the closet thing I’ve come to making a smoothie with it has been an ‘oatshake,’ one of my favorites was making it HOT and spiced with cinnamon. A hot smoothie…think about it…

  34. My top smoothie addictions right now are my Carrot Cake, Oatmeal Cookie, and Butternut Cherry. They’re all on my recipage… don’t want to clog your comments. :)

I’ve never tried Plant Fusion but I reallllly want to. Always looking for a good, clean protein.

  35. I tweeted!

  50. My favorite smoothie recipe is for your basic pumpkin spice smoothie with vanilla protein powder, non-dairy milk, frozen banana, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice. For chocolate protein powder, I blend frozen spinach, frozen banana, an extra teaspoon of cocoa powder, chocolate or plain nondairy milk, fresh mint and/or mint extract for a mint chocolate smoothie. So good!

  51. I love plant fusion! My favorite smoothie recipe is called the kitchen sink :) 10 oz of water, one scoop of protein, a mixture of veges on hand. (usually kale, celery, carrots) a slice of ginger, a slice of beet, some lemon juice, a tsp-tblsp of udo’s oil, any available frozen berries and ice. I play with the amounts of produce based on what’s in the fridge. I’m just warning you now that the color is awful, but tastes great! My kids ask for sips all the time .

Enjoy! * Add in some shredded coconut for some extra coconut flavor + texture! * Add in some hemp seeds, almonds, chia seeds for protein

  80. I love my banana fig and laura’s oatmeal cookie. I’ve been meaning to try her butternut cherry bomb too. My go – to is always spinach, tj’s very cherry blend, homemade cashew milk, maca, hemp, and usually sunwarrior.

I really want to try plant fusion. I may have missed this in your review but how is it price wise to sunwarrior?? I’m looking to a food more financially feasible powder.

Thi protein powder is really good made into a gingerbread smoothie. 1 spoon protein powder, 1-2 tbs of molasses, depending how much you like mollasses, 1 frozen banana, 1tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp allspice, .5 tsp nutmeg, and 2 tsp gresh ground ginger. Then just enough of whatever milk you use, I prefer almond here, to cover everything and give it the consistency you want. (:
